Sweet treats in Edinburgh, at home or in person

I don’t know about you but I’ve definitely done a bit of comfort eating over the last few months, facilitated by Edinburgh’s amazing bakery and cake businesses.

There have been a few small silver linings during lockdown, one of which has to be the number of delicious things you can get delivered to your door. Thankfully many of these lovely bakers are continuing to deliver, which gives you the perfect chance to try something from the other side of town that you might not normally get a chance to venture to.

Also, as we finally get to meet up with friends and family more, nothing says quite like reunion celebrations like cake! Order in a big cake to share, or maybe some bakery items to make a perfect picnic.

Whether it is quality sourdough or delectable doughnuts, pastries, or even sweet treats that you are searching for, we've got you covered.

Below is a list of local suppliers for bakery and cake delivery in Edinburgh:

Classic comforts

Sometime all you want is to tuck into a really fudgy brownie or decadent donut.

  1. Tasty Buns Bakery (West Port) are extremely popular in our household, delivering everything from brownies to tarts to scones with unique flavours. Keep an eye out for their original and yummy ‘Cookie Monster bagel’! They deliver on Wednesdays and Saturdays with a different menu each time. They have now reopened their doors as well so you can order for collection or just pop in and grab a coffee while you’re there.
  2. Stacked (online only) are a home bakery that started up just before lockdown. They deliver the most mouth-watering selection of brownies and cookies nationwide from their Edinburgh kitchen (seriously I challenge you to scroll through their Instagram without drooling).
  3. The Kilted Donut (Leith) is the place to go if you're looking for some freshly-made treats that certainly won't disappoint. They are now delivering bags and boxes of donuts throughout Edinburgh to help satisfy those sweet cravings. Their Tunnocks Teacake Donut recently went viral on social. Online orders go live each Monday at 6pm.
  4. Zest Edinburgh (online only) offers a variety of traditional Argentinian treats (think biscuits oozing with dulce de leche). Orders are prepared freshly on request and available for delivery throughout the week. The only difficult part is choosing what to have from their extensive menu. You may opt for one of their finest Hamper packages which include a mix of treats chosen for you.
  5. Marlenka (online only) uses natural ingredients to create exquisite honey cakes based on a traditional Armenian recipe. And they offer free same-day delivery. So, why not enlighten your taste buds with some award-winning gluten-free honey nuggets?

Celebration cakes for a crowd

Now that we can, why not (responsibly) get together and celebrate with a slice of cake.

  1. CAKED by Catherine (online only) creates the ultimate bespoke celebration cakes, perfect if you’ve got a special occasion and want something with serious wow factor. Her Instagram feed is the stuff of dreams!
  2. 3D Cakes (Roseburn) will bake you any kind of cake you want, and as their name suggests they specialise in truly unique and personal 3D cakes. Chocolate dinosaur anyone?
  3. Cuckoos Bakery (Stockbridge and Bruntsfield) have reopened their Dundas St and Bruntsfield shops, but they’re still delivering celebration cakes on Fridays and Saturdays. These are proper crowd pleasers in classic flavours.
  4. Lovecrumbs (West Port) have become an Edinburgh institution and are delivering a selection of their pretty pastel coloured cakes (as well as tasty treats including brownies and cookies) across Edinburgh every Thursday.
  5. Abbi’s Pantry (Leith and Stockbridge Markets) is perfect for party cakes, delivering treat boxes comprised of a range of at least 5 home-baked cakes every Friday, as well as celebration cakes for a bit of a feast. The ‘Massive Brownie Cake’ sounds particularly appealing to me!

Something savoury

Not a huge cake fan, or just needs some savoury bakes delivered for your picnic? Well Edinburgh has you covered in that department too.

  1. Pie Not? (Morningside) Is not your traditional pie bakery. These artisan handcrafted pies can be delivered to your door along with a choice of sides and desserts. So why not make a meal of it and try out their famous black pudding, tomato and chorizo pie with a side of chips and a sticky toffee pudding. Heaven.
  2. Bakery Andante (Morningside, Leith, Farmers Market) is one for the bread lovers  with an abundance of artisan bread available. Each one is created to allow time for a depth of flavour to develop and will leave you wanting more. They deliver daily within Edinburgh as well as surrounding areas on Friday and Saturday.
  3. Il Panino Home Bakery (online only) are providing a delivery service in and around the Edinburgh City area on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. You can't go far wrong with this Italian style bakery delivering devilishly good ciabattas, paninis, and focaccias. Oh, and it's great value for money too!
  4. Le Petit Francais (Leith) knows that there is nothing quite like an oven-fresh fluffy croissant smothered with butter and strawberry jam. Imagine that along with a couple of baguettes made fresh overnight and delivered straight to your door the next day. Yep, we thought you’d like that. You can now order from their website and choose a delivery option to suit you.
  5. Soderberg Bakery (multiple locations) is well loved for its classic array of Swedish crispbread variations and sourdough. Some Swedish staples include their unbeatable cinnamon buns, mazarins and chocolate balls. Delivery days are Fridays through to Mondays around specific locations in Edinburgh. So make sure they cover your address by checking out their delivery map.
