Zaccardelli Leather Co. produce handmade leather accessories in Edinburgh. A small family business operating from a workshop in Leith, all their items are produced from natural vegetable tanned leather and are 100% handmade and hand stitched.
They believe luxury should be accessible to all. With an ethos of more for less, they take pride in producing products which last the test of time. Jordan Zaccardelli tells us more.
Zaccardelli Leather Co. draw on their rich Italian heritage to create leather goods that are life-lasting. “Sergio (our leather craftsman) began to conceive his passion for leather from a background of family business, woodwork and fine paint effects where attention to detail was essential. Perfectionist by nature, Sergio has developed and designed our products from the finest Italian leather sourced from Florence.
“Minimalism is a strong factor of our design ethos, influenced by innovative, understated, classic Italian design. Inspiration to fully commit to the business came from the lack of quality, handmade accessories in Edinburgh at the time.”
Lockdown can take its toll in unexpected ways. As their business is predominantly online, traffic has remained stable, but they have been affected in other ways. “There has been a general downturn on sales and unfortunately issues around sourcing our materials from suppliers. Luckily, we hold enough stock and have managed to mitigate these issues.
“Also, we had to buy a coffee machine as our local artisan couldn’t suppress their caffeine addiction!”
Jordan describes the shop local drive towards small independent businesses as “a breath of fresh air.”
“Edinburgh is full of talented individuals and has a vibrant community of makers. The lockdown has had a positive effect on all aspects of an individual's artistic expression. We’ve had the time to focus on further developing our online business and also invest more time into product innovation without pressure.
“We’ve also had the time to focus on reaching out and developing meaningful relationships with a community facing the same issue. The collective atmosphere due to lockdown has had such a positive effect on us, we feel we can come out of this as a community willing to help each other.
“We particularly want to give shout outs to Twelve Triangles and Life Story.”
“As soon as we can we’ll grab a coffee from our local Twelve Triangles and enjoy the atmosphere.”
